RUC relaunches President’s Scholarship to empower female students in STEM & Agriculture

Regentropfen University College (RUC) has reintroduced the President’s Scholarship for Females as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations, aimed at increasing female participation in science, agriculture, mathematics, and technology-related (STEM) fields.

The scholarship package introduced by the Founder of RUC, Reverend Dr. Moses Asaah Awinongya SVD in 2022, provides 50% tuition fee coverage for two (2) academic years for eligible female students pursuing selected STEM programmes.

The initiative focuses on supporting women enrolled in:

1. BSc. Agriculture for
   Social Change,
2. B.Ed. Mathematics with ICT,
3. BSc. Computer Science, and
4. BSc. Information Technology.

Rev. Fr. Dr. M.A. Awinongya explained that the scholarship is inspired by the contributions of women who played significant roles in the growth of the institution, particularly Professor Agnes Apusiga, the first lady Vice President of RUC, and his late mother, Mama Alice Akankuba-Mah Abinglogro.

“Prof. Agnes Atia Apusigah was the first female Vice President of our institution and she also founded and funded the award for the best graduating female student,” he said.

He added that the scholarship also reflects his late mother’s commitment to supporting young women despite not having received formal education herself.

“Though she was not formally educated, she made sure young women came to RUC and she helped finance them so they could build their future,” Rev. Dr. Awinongya stated.

According to him, the university believes the legacy of these women must continue through initiatives that create opportunities for more females to pursue careers in critical development areas.

“We feel it’s important to encourage more women in agriculture, science, mathematics, and technology,” he added.

Meanwhile, RUC is also offering a special scholarship package for students interested in studying BSc. Accounting.

The package provides 60% tuition fee coverage for the first two (2) academic years and 40% for the remaining two (2) years.

The Accounting scholarship forms part of the university’s commitment to strengthening professional training and producing the next generation of accountants for Ghana’s development.

Regentropfen University College, located at Kansoe, Namoo in the Upper East Region, offers degree, diploma, and postgraduate programmes across its Faculties of Applied Sciences, Humanities, and Health Sciences.
