The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has successfully conducted its Bolgatanga East Constituency Executive Elections as part of the party’s nationwide reorganization aimed at strengthening its structures ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The election was held on Saturday, the 11th of July 2026, at the St. Martin de Porres Catholic Social Centre in Zuarungu. Voting began at 8:00 a.m. and ended at 4:00 p.m. in a peaceful atmosphere.
Out of 471 accredited delegates, 464 cast their ballots, recording a high voter turnout and underscoring the delegates’ commitment to the party’s internal democratic process.
At the end of the polls, Atiah Desmond Abane was elected Constituency Chairman, polling 242 votes to defeat his closest challenger by 42 votes.
The newly elected constituency executives are as follows.
Atiah Desmond Abane won the chairmanship position with 242 votes, Atakima Clement Atinga pulled 242 votes and secured the First Vice Chairman position. Ayine Francis Assibi recorded 282 votes as the Second Vice Chairman. The Secretary position was won by Akolgo Bismark Jospa with 314 votes. Abalma Pasteur Sunday also won the Deputy Secretary position with 229 votes. The Organizer’s portfolio was won by Apoya Michael Asogro with 286 votes. The Constituency Treasurer was Atapusa Gordon. He pulled 171 votes. The Women’s Organizer was Akolgo Monica with a total of 165 votes. The Nasara Organizer for the Constituency got 235 votes; he is Moro Blessing Bukari. The Communications Officer, Ateera Ayinbila, pulled 199 votes, and finally, the Youth Organizer was Agingre Ahmed, who was unopposed.
Addressing party members after the declaration of the results, the Chairman-elect, Atiah Desmond Abane, expressed gratitude to the delegates for the confidence they had reposed in him. He also commended the Ghana Police Service, election officials, the Electoral Committee, and members of the media for their roles in ensuring a peaceful, transparent, and credible election.
“I am deeply humbled by the confidence the delegates have placed in me. I sincerely thank every delegate who participated in this election, as well as my fellow contestants, for conducting themselves in a peaceful and democratic manner. I also wish to express my appreciation to the Ghana Police Service, the Electoral Committee, election officials, and the media for helping to ensure a transparent and violence-free process. The contest is over, and now the real work begins.”
He called on candidates who were unsuccessful to remain committed to the party, stressing that unity would be key to rebuilding the constituency.
“There are no winners or losers in today’s election because the NPP remains the ultimate winner. I urge every member, including those who were not successful, to join hands with the new leadership. We are one family, and together we will strengthen the party in Bolgatanga East, reclaim the parliamentary seat, and contribute meaningfully to the NPP’s victory in the 2028 general elections.”
The re-elected Constituency Secretary, Akolgo Bismark Jospa, acknowledged that the party had faced organisational challenges in recent years but expressed confidence that the newly elected executives would work collectively to restore unity and strengthen the party’s structures.
“We recognize that the constituency has gone through difficult moments over the past few years, but this election marks the beginning of a new chapter. Our priority is to rebuild trust, strengthen our grassroots structures, and ensure that every member feels included in the affairs of the party.”
Mr. Jospa said the executive would focus on effective organization, membership mobilization, and collaboration across all levels of the party.
“I will work closely with the Chairman and every member of the executive team to promote unity among both the youth and the elderly, address the concerns of our members, and build a stronger constituency capable of winning future elections. We appeal to everyone to support the new leadership because our common objective is the progress and success of the NPP in Bolgatanga East.”
The election concluded peacefully without any reported incidents, with party faithful expressing optimism that the newly elected executives would provide effective leadership and adequately prepare the constituency for the 2028 general elections.
