The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region has concluded the vetting of aspirants seeking various regional executive positions, with the exercise producing one major disqualification and one withdrawal ahead of the party’s regional executive elections.
The Regional Elections Committee disqualified Samuel Akumbo Awintariba, who was contesting for the Regional Youth Organiser position, because he exceeded the age limit required for the office.
According to the committee, the party’s guidelines reserve the Youth Organiser position for persons not above 40 years of age, making Mr. Akumbo ineligible to contest. His disqualification leaves Jonathan Amaltimga Abugre as the only qualified aspirant for the position.
In another development, Samuel A. Atiru has withdrawn from the race for the 2nd Regional Vice Chairman position, leaving Bampil Badeabo Moses to go into the election unopposed, subject to the party’s electoral procedures.
The vetting exercise, held at the NPP Regional Secretariat in Bolgatanga, cleared aspirants for the remaining positions, setting the stage for competitive races across several offices.
The Regional Chairman race remains one of the keenly watched contests, with Elvis Atiah Figo, Dr. Atinga Moses Kwabena, Patrick Ayaba, Osman Mahamudu Konkonaba, and Filson Awankuah cleared to contest.
For the position of Regional Secretary, Daniel K. Gariba, Daniel Nsobila Ayine, and Musah Salahu-Deen have been cleared, while Akasoba Jeremiah Aputara, Naoh Thomas Yaab, Anane Johnson, and Samuel K. Akaamah will compete for Deputy Regional Secretary.
The Regional Organiser position will see Bombande Edmund, Mark Ayamga, Anyass Abubakari, and Listowell Adaazi Azongbilla battle for the slot, while Dr. Daniel Ziba, Anaba Mohammed Hakeem, and Inusah Sally will contest the Regional Treasurer position.
In the other contests, Abingde Evelyn, Ophelia Philomena Aovare, Magarete Akagwire, and Asaaba Fatima have been cleared for the Women’s Organiser position.
The Communications Officer race features Peter Ayinbisah Ayamga, Dr. Samuel Akonga, and Johnson Ayine Apasinaba, while Seidu Abass Ustarz, Adamu Masaud, and Musah Delwinde are contesting for Nasara Organiser.
The 1st Regional Vice Chairman position will be contested by Georgina Ayamba, Isaac Atasige, and Janet Asumda Lamisi.
The successful completion of the vetting has set the stage for the NPP Upper East Regional Executive elections, where delegates will elect leaders expected to steer the party’s affairs and strengthen its mobilisation ahead of the 2028 general elections.
