The NDC Constituency Secretary for Talensi, Augustine Mmi-oni Guure, says he cannot rule out the possibility that a road incident in which his vehicle was involved was a targeted attack by people opposed to his outspoken stance on development and accountability.
Mr Guure, who is also the Assembly Member for the Sheaga Electoral Area and is aspiring to become the NDC Constituency Chairman, says the circumstances surrounding the incident have raised questions about whether he was deliberately targeted.
According to him, he was returning from Tongo when a black Toyota Voxy with Burkina Faso registration plates allegedly crossed his path between the BIG BOSS field and the Catholic Church.
He said the vehicle appeared to block his way, forcing him to manoeuvre towards the roadside, but the vehicle allegedly continued in his direction.
Mr Guure said he eventually drove off the road in an attempt to escape, resulting in his vehicle crashing and overturning.
He recalled hearing the people (inside the Black Voxy) discussing whether he was dead or needed to be checked before the vehicle allegedly left.
“I think that I am a target. I don’t know who is targeting me. I don’t know what it is about, whether it is the contest. But what happened is what I saw,” he said.
Mr Guure believes the incident could have been a warning from individuals who are uncomfortable with his approach to leadership.
He said his persistent criticism of development gaps and demands for accountability may have made him unpopular with some people.
He, however, declined to identify any individual or group as being behind the incident.
The NDC Constituency Secretary said his aspiration to become Constituency Chairman would not change his approach to public service.
He said he would continue to speak about issues affecting residents and demand accountability from duty bearers.
Mr Guure said he has already undergone medical checks at one hospital including the Pentecost Hospital and was cleared of any serious injury.
He is calling for the circumstances surrounding the incident to be properly examined, while urging supporters and residents not to panic over rumours concerning his alleged death.
