An old student of St. George’s Primary School in Bolgatanga, Issah Bukari Ayamdo, has returned to his alma mater with a package of educational and infrastructure materials to support teaching and learning.
The intervention includes 100 bags of cement, 10 packs of roofing sheets, 350 exercise books, 100 branded school bags, 500 pens and four footballs.
Mr. Ayamdo, Chief Executive Officer of Ringo Apsonic Motors Company in Bolgatanga, said the gesture was a way of giving back to the institution that provided him with his foundation in education.
He recalled how his formative years at the school shaped his life and said seeing children at the school years after his graduation continually reminded him of his responsibility to contribute to its development.
“The teachers who taught me how to write, how to read, where I first met my friends, it all started here, St. George’s Primary,” he said.
He said the idea of supporting the school had remained with him for years until he was in a position to act.
“I wonder, I was also one of them? Was I like this? And what would I do to help these children? One day, when I have the power, I will know what to do. And this thing has come to reality,” he said.
Partnership with Apsonic
Mr. Ayamdo said the donation was made in partnership with his associates at Apsonic Motors Ghana in Tamale, where he serves as the company’s main agent in Bolgatanga.
He described the contribution as both a personal gesture to his alma mater and an effort to support education in the municipality.
“This donation is my give back to society and my alma mater for the development of the school because this is the school that made me who I am today and I am grateful,” he said.
Call for more support
Receiving the items on behalf of the school, Bolgatanga Municipal Education Supervision Officer Timothy Allou expressed appreciation to Mr. Ayamdo and his partners.
He urged other old students, businesses and philanthropists to support schools in the municipality.
Mr. Allou said government resources alone could not meet every need within the education sector and called for stronger community and private-sector participation in improving school infrastructure and learning conditions.
The donation is expected to support the school’s immediate material needs while contributing to efforts to improve the learning environment for pupils.
