The Upper East Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has constituted a three-member independent vetting committee to scrutinise entries submitted for the 5th Upper East Regional GJA Awards.
The committee is expected to uphold fairness, transparency and professional standards throughout the process.
The three-member committee is made up of Dr Benjamin Asunka Azembila, Head of the Marketing and Communication Department at BTU; Dr Samuel Adadi Akapule, a senior journalist and lecturer at BTU; and Madam Fatima Sandra Anafu-Astanga, a Senior Editor at the Ghana News Agency.
They will independently assess and vet the various submissions, with particular attention to journalistic quality, relevance, impact and adherence to professional and ethical standards.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Dr Azembila assured journalists and stakeholders that the vetting process would be conducted with impartiality, transparency and fairness, stressing the importance of maintaining the credibility of the awards.
The 5th edition of the Upper East Regional GJA Awards is being held under the theme: “Beyond the Headlines: The Media’s Role in Promoting WASH for Safe Motherhood and Quality Healthcare.”
The awards ceremony is scheduled for October 2, 2026.
The event is headlined by MyTurn Limited and Lesken Enterprise Limited, with Kacstones Records and Paga Youth Movement serving as main sponsors.
The awards seek to recognise and celebrate journalists whose work has demonstrated excellence, public impact and commitment to responsible journalism in the Upper East Region.
