The Bolgatanga East District Assembly has provided a new Junior High School (JHS) block for Dachio Tenga-Noore to address severe overcrowding and inadequate classroom facilities that have affected teaching and learning in the community.
The new facility, funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), is expected to ease pressure on the existing school infrastructure, where primary and junior high school pupils and students had been sharing limited classroom space.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bolgatanga East, Jacob Abugre Aka-Eri, said the intervention became necessary after the Assembly found the existing conditions unacceptable.
He explained that the old facility had only three classrooms serving the entire primary school, while the JHS was also operating from the same premises.
The pressure on the facility, he said, had forced the school to partition some classrooms with plywood to create additional learning spaces.
Mr Aka-Eri said the community raised concerns about the situation and appealed to the Assembly in 2024 for a suitable JHS facility.
“We saw that the situation was unacceptable,” he said.
“Today, we are here because there is an urgent need to provide them with a standard Junior High School block.”
The DCE said the Assembly remained committed to improving educational infrastructure across the district to ensure that pupils and students learn in conducive environments.
The Bolgatanga East District Director of Education, Agatha Awiah, welcomed the completion of the project, saying it represented the fulfilment of a long-standing need for the community.
She said the Education Directorate had “come a very long way” in its efforts to secure a befitting classroom facility for children in Dachio Tenga-Noore.
Madam Awiah expressed confidence that the new block would help improve teaching and learning and provide a better working environment for teachers and students.
The presentation of the facility was attended by officials of the District Assembly and Education Directorate, teachers, parents, students and residents of Dachio Tenga-Noore.
