Former NDC Upper East Regional Deputy Communications Officer and aspirant for the Regional Communications Officer position, Casper Sunday Kampoli, says the government is under pressure to fix the deteriorating Bolgatanga-Bawku road, which he describes as a major concern for residents.
Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr Kampoli said the condition of the road affects ordinary residents and requires sustained lobbying and engagement with government.
“We are daily lobbying, we are daily negotiating, we are daily putting pressure on the Roads Minister and then the government that this road, Bolgatanga-Bawku road, is a priority road,” he said.
He said residents should, however, not expect government to resolve every development challenge within two years, arguing that some problems inherited from the previous administration are complex and require time and multiple interventions.
The Aspirant cited the Upper East Regional Airport project as an example of a development initiative he said required the resolution of competing interests and land-related disagreements before progress could be made.
He said President John Mahama’s recent visit to the project site was important in consolidating stakeholder agreement on the location of the airport.
Mr Kampoli further argued that major infrastructure projects must be backed by adequate funding and the necessary arrangements before contractors are mobilised.
He said this approach would prevent projects from being started without secured financing, insisting that the government is committed to ensuring the airport and road projects are completed.
