Former Deputy Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Casper Sunday Kampoli, says he is still considering another attempt at becoming the party’s Upper East Regional Communication Officer, but insists he will only contest if his ongoing consultations point in that direction.
Speaking on A1 Radio monitored by BolgaFM, Mr Kampoli said he remains interested in the position he contested in 2022, when he narrowly lost to Abdallah Salifu.
“So I still have my eyes on the Regional Communication Officer position, which I contested in 2022. Unfortunately, I could not get into that office after having served as Deputy from 2018 to 2022,” he said.
Mr Kampoli said consultations with party stakeholders are ongoing, with some supporters already encouraging him to return to the regional communication space.
“I’m doing my consultations. As I said, that is the only work I can do: to advocate, sell the NDC story, make a case for the NDC as a party, and tell the superior record of the NDC,” he said.
In the 2022 NDC Upper East Regional elections, Mr Kampoli secured 198 votes, while Abdallah Salifu won the position with 264 votes. The then incumbent, Saeed Ahmed Tijani, polled 26 votes.
Despite his defeat, Mr Kampoli said he has remained committed to the party and has continued to contribute to its communication efforts.
He explained that his absence from the region since 2022 was largely due to further studies and national-level responsibilities rather than a withdrawal from party activities.
“I’ve said I’ve never left. I’m always home,” he said.
Mr Kampoli said he is currently in his fourth year of studies and is focused on completing his thesis and graduating, but maintained that his academic commitments have not prevented him from contributing to the NDC.
He cited his period as Deputy Regional Communication Officer between 2019 and 2022, when he combined the role with his Master’s studies, as evidence that he could balance academic and political responsibilities.
He said his eventual decision will depend on the outcome of the consultations.
“If it turns out that I should contest again and I contest and win, I’ll come in with a lot of experience in terms of exposure, network, vision, and what I want to do for the region,” he said.
Mr Kampoli said he remains convinced that young people have an important role to play in shaping the NDC’s future communication and political agenda.
“We are young people. We want to contribute. We have a lot of energy, a lot of passion, and we want to help,” he said.
