Former Deputy Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Casper Sunday Kampoli, says his years of work in research, local governance and national-level political engagement have equipped him with broader expertise beyond conventional party communication.
Mr Kampoli, who is consulting on a possible return to the NDC Upper East Regional Communication Officer race, says the experience he has accumulated since his 2022 contest would allow him to approach the role from a wider development perspective if he eventually decides to contest and wins.
“I’m not just coming back as a mere communicator. I’m coming back as somebody who has built capacity,” he said in an interview on A1 Radio monitored by BolgaFM.
Mr Kampoli said his move out of the Upper East Region in 2022 to pursue further studies also provided him with opportunities to gain national exposure and establish networks that could be useful to the region.
“It’s a positive thing for me that, though I’ve served in the region for eight years as an executive, I now have national exposure. I’ve built national networks and connections,” he said.
He said his professional experience extends beyond political communication to local governance, research, development, technical communication, marketing and branding.
Before joining the National Investment Programme, Mr Kampoli disclosed that he worked as a Research Fellow with the Institute of Local Government Service.
He said the role exposed him to practical local governance and development issues and gave him opportunities to work directly with local government actors.
He revealed that in 2024, he led the training of assembly members across six districts in the North East Region as part of his work with the Institute of Local Government Service.
“For the first time, maybe I’ll say this: I trained assembly members for the six districts in Eastern part of the region in 2024. I led that as a Research Fellow with the Institute of Local Government Service,” he said.
Mr Kampoli believes that experience could help strengthen political communication by connecting the NDC’s messaging with development realities and potential partnerships.
He said he would also be able to draw on networks and relationships developed at the national level to identify development partners and communicate the region’s needs more effectively.
According to him, modern political communication should go beyond defending a party’s record on radio and television to include strategic communication, branding, stakeholder engagement and development advocacy.
He maintained that his academic pursuits have also strengthened his capacity and have not prevented him from contributing to the NDC’s communication efforts.
Mr Kampoli, however, emphasised that he has not yet declared his intention to contest the regional position, stressing that consultations are still ongoing.
