Two security watchmen of the Bolgatanga Girls’ Senior High School (BOGISS) have reportedly been arrested following a report by Media Without Borders on allegations that they sexually abused a 14-year-old student of the school.
The development follows a report published by Media Without Borders on August 18, 2026, which detailed allegations of sexual abuse involving the two security personnel and the student on the school’s campus.
Media Without Borders reported that the two watchmen had been referred to the Bolgatanga Municipal Education Directorate for disciplinary action, while the matter had also been reported to the Ghana Police Service.
The publication subsequently contacted the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service on August 16, which confirmed that the case had been reported and that efforts were underway to arrest the two men.
The alleged incidents reportedly occurred on separate occasions on the school premises in June and July 2026.
According to the Media Without Borders report, the student first reported an incident involving one of the watchmen before subsequently indicating that another security officer was also allegedly involved.
The school’s headmistress, Gifty Ayamba, confirmed the development to Media Without Borders and said the school had initiated disciplinary proceedings before referring the matter to the Municipal Education Directorate, Regional Education Directorate and the police.
The headmistress also told the publication that both watchmen allegedly admitted to the acts during questioning before the school’s disciplinary committee.
The report further indicated that the student’s family had raised concerns about the handling of the case, including the decision to temporarily convert her from a boarding student to a day student.
The family has also expressed concern about the impact of the situation on the 14-year-old, whose identity has been withheld to protect her privacy.
The arrest of the two watchmen now represents a significant development in a case that has raised questions about student safety, safeguarding and the responsibility of schools to protect vulnerable learners.
Media Without Borders’ report also highlighted concerns surrounding students’ access to charging facilities for government-issued tablets, after the publication reported that the student had gone to the security post to retrieve her tablet before one of the alleged incidents.
The latest development is expected to pave the way for further police investigations and possible prosecution of the two security personnel.
The identities of the alleged victims and the two arrested watchmen have not been publicly disclosed.
