The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Officer for the Upper East Region, Jonathan Abdullah Salifu, says the government must now focus on addressing challenges confronting farmers after making progress in reducing consumer concerns over food prices.

Mr Salifu acknowledged concerns raised by farmers who complain that low market prices for agricultural produce are not matching the rising cost of farm inputs.

He, however, argued that solving national challenges requires a gradual process, adding that government’s efforts to address consumer concerns represent an important first step.

“We as citizens and consumers were complaining. Now consumers’ issues have been resolved. It is only the farmers who are complaining. So moving forward, the Minister of Agriculture will now look at how to solve the farmers’ complaint,” he said.

The NDC communicator made the comments while reacting to discussions surrounding the 2026 mid-year budget review presented by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson on A1 Radio, monitored by BolgaFM.

He said government must continue engaging farmers and implementing measures that will improve their profitability and sustainability.

Mr Salifu noted that agriculture remains critical to Ghana’s economy and that farmers must benefit from policies aimed at improving food production.

He explained that development requires addressing challenges in phases rather than expecting all problems to disappear immediately.

“In trying to solve a problem, you might get a group of people complaining. If you are able to deal with half of them, then you continue until you get the entire thing resolved,” he said.

Meanwhile, he praised the Finance Minister’s presentation, saying the budget showed evidence of financial discipline and a commitment to rebuilding the economy.

He urged stakeholders to support government’s efforts while continuing to hold leaders accountable for delivering results.
