The Municipal Disease Control Officer for the Bolgatanga Municipal Health Directorate, Simon Adjei, has called on health workers to uphold the core values of the health profession by putting the patient first and treating them with dignity, respect, and compassion always.
Speaking at a health sector engagement in Bolgatanga, Mr. Adjei reminded health personnel that the primary purpose of their work is to provide quality care to patients and other clients, stressing that every action taken by healthcare workers should reflect professionalism, accountability, and a commitment to excellent service delivery.
“We are here because of the patient,” he emphasized, urging health workers to remain courteous, respectful, and responsive to the needs of those who seek healthcare services.
To strengthen accountability and improve patient satisfaction, Mr. Adjei disclosed that health facilities have established committees to promote good conduct among staff and address concerns relating to staff behaviour.
He encouraged patients and other clients to report any issues affecting the quality of healthcare they receive from a facility, particularly those involving the attitude or conduct of health workers. According to him, such feedback will help health authorities investigate complaints, address misconduct where necessary, and improve service delivery.
Mr. Adjei noted that fostering a culture of professionalism, respect, and accountability within health facilities is essential to building public confidence in the healthcare system.
He therefore urged all health personnel to uphold the ethical standards and core values of the health profession, ensuring that every patient receives quality care in a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment.
