More than 40 polling station youth organisers and executives in the Nabdam Constituency have thrown their support behind incumbent NDC Constituency Chairman, Tetteh Zure, calling for his retention ahead of the party’s internal elections.
The group, representing more than 40 of the constituency’s 55 polling stations, mobilised to pick a nomination form for Mr Zure, who has served as constituency chairman since 2015.
The supporters say his tenure has coincided with a strengthening of the NDC’s electoral fortunes in Nabdam and believe his continued leadership is crucial to consolidating the party’s gains ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Available constituency-level election figures show that the NDC’s presidential vote margin over the NPP increased from 2,890 votes in 2016 to 3,454 in 2020, before rising sharply to 5,434 votes in 2024.
In the 2024 presidential election, the NDC’s John Mahama polled 11,393 votes, compared with 5,959 for the NPP’s Mahamudu Bawumia.
The NDC also retained the Nabdam parliamentary seat, with Mark Kurt Nawaane securing 11,192 votes against the NPP’s 6,680 in 2024.
Lead organiser of the mobilisation, Abednago Bugrebon, says the decision to back Mr Zure is based on what the group considers his grassroots organisational record and contribution to strengthening the party’s structures.
He says the polling station executives believe the constituency chairman has demonstrated the capacity to mobilise the party and maintain its electoral advantage.
Receiving the nomination form, Mr Zure thanked the youth and polling station executives for the confidence reposed in him.
He pledged to build on the NDC’s electoral performance and set an even more ambitious target for the party in 2028.
Mr Zure said the NDC would work towards leaving the NPP with “no voting figures” in Nabdam in the next general election.
