Candidates who obtained a score of 9 in either English Language or Mathematics, or both subjects, but otherwise qualify for secondary education, have been given the opportunity to secure placement through the self-placement system.
The Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, made this known during the release of the 2026 Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) results.
Dr Apaak said 57,259 candidates did not qualify for automatic placement.
The figure includes 35,382 candidates who obtained a score of 9 in either English Language or Mathematics, and 18,505 candidates who obtained a score of 9 in both subjects.
He said these candidates can access the self-placement portal and select schools and programmes where vacancies are available.
However, 3,372 candidates who did not sit for the examination and therefore have no results will not be placed in the current exercise.
Dr Apaak said the government will provide such candidates with a second opportunity to resit the examination.
He encouraged candidates using the self-placement option to consider the full range of schools and programmes available, taking into account vacancies, location and their individual needs.
The Deputy Minister also stressed that the CSSPS placement process is completely free, warning parents and candidates against paying individuals for placement or changes to placement.
He said placement resolution centres have been established at the regional and national levels to address genuine challenges.
Dr Apaak further disclosed that the CSSPS has been upgraded with an admission portal which allows parents and candidates to complete admission processes and download admission forms without necessarily travelling to schools.
