Apana Vitus Akoligeya, an aspirant for the Bolgatanga East Constituency NDC Youth Organizer position, is reportedly enjoying the backing of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Dr Dominic Ayine, ahead of the opening of nominations on September 15, 2026.
Sources close to the campaign say Mr Akoligeya is the preferred candidate of Dr Ayine, who also serves as Attorney General and Minister for Justice.
The reported support is expected to strengthen Mr Akoligeya’s campaign as the contest moves towards the nomination, filing and vetting stages later this month.
Mr Akoligeya currently serves as Branch Youth Organizer for Atugrebisi and Ward Secretary for the Zuarungu North Ward, positions that have given him experience in grassroots party mobilisation and organisation.
He also has experience in political communications, having served on the Upper East Regional NDC Communications Working Committee and Team.
His supporters are presenting his combination of grassroots party experience and communications skills as key strengths in his bid to lead the NDC youth wing in the constituency.
The reported backing of the sitting MP could, however, introduce a new dynamic into the contest, particularly as other aspirants seek to consolidate their support ahead of the party’s internal electoral process.
Although Dr Ayine has not publicly confirmed the reported endorsement, sources familiar with the campaign maintain that Mr Akoligeya enjoys his support.
The development is likely to heighten interest in the Bolgatanga East Constituency youth leadership race, with attention now turning to how other contenders respond as nominations open.
The nomination process is scheduled to begin on September 15, 2026, setting the stage for the next phase of the contest.
