The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Pusiga has challenged the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Hajia Laadi Ayii Ayamba, to account for the development outcomes delivered to constituents after several consecutive terms in Parliament.
The constituency’s NPP Communications Officer, Sumaila Jafaru, says political longevity alone should not be the measure of effective representation, arguing that the focus must be on the development problems solved during an MP’s tenure.
“The most meaningful measure of representation is not political longevity; it is the development problems that representation helps solve,” he said.
Hajia Laadi Ayii Ayamba has represented Pusiga for several consecutive terms and retained the seat in the 2024 parliamentary election with 19,557 votes, defeating the NPP’s Hanan Abdul-Wahab, who polled 15,798 votes.
The NPP says that electoral support should come with an equally strong obligation to account for the constituency’s development needs.
At the centre of its latest criticism are the unfinished Agenda 111 hospital, deteriorating inner roads and the ongoing redevelopment of the Pusiga market.
The party argues that these issues should form the basis of a conversation about what it describes as the constituency’s development priorities.
Government records confirm that the Pusiga Agenda 111 hospital remains listed among the government’s hospital projects, with an outstanding payment claim of more than GH¢11.5 million recorded in the Auditor-General’s 2024 data.
The 2026 Pusiga District budget also identifies poor access roads to some market locations as one of the constraints facing the district’s markets, including Pusiga Central, Widana and Kulugungu. The same document lists the 24-Hour Market Project as being at the procurement stage.
For the NPP, these issues raise questions about the sequence of development interventions and the role of the constituency’s political leadership in pushing for solutions.
Mr Jafaru says the party expects the MP to use her position to advocate more strongly for the completion of the hospital and improvement of inner roads.
“Accountability is not hostility. Questions are not insults. Demanding development is not disrespect,” he said.
He added that the longer an elected representative remains in office, the greater the expectation for measurable results.
The NPP’s position comes as Hajia Ayamba begins another term in Parliament after retaining the Pusiga seat in the 2024 elections.
Meanwhile, Madam Lardi Ayii Ayamba was among MPs who recorded perfect attendance at all 34 parliamentary sittings in 2025, according to a Ghana News Agency report.
