NorthLite Solar Limited has sponsored the 5th Upper East Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards, in recognition of the media’s role in promoting development and holding institutions accountable.
Chief Executive Officer of NorthLite Solar, Frank Akasoba Adabre, said journalism remains critical to shaping public understanding of issues including renewable energy, climate change and job creation.
“We believe journalism is vital in shaping public understanding of issues like renewable energy, climate change, and job creation,” Mr Adabre said.
He said the sponsorship was the company’s way of recognising journalists who demonstrate professionalism, integrity and courage in their work.
NorthLite Solar is a Ghanaian-owned renewable energy company headquartered in Bolgatanga, with operations focused particularly on solar solutions for off-grid and underserved communities.
The company says it has operated since 2009 and provides solar power systems, including solar photovoltaic solutions for homes, businesses and institutions, as well as solar-powered water pumping systems for agriculture.
It also undertakes Engineering, Procurement and Construction projects for grid-connected solar systems.
NorthLite has also developed a franchise model through which it trains independent solar businesses and technical operators to distribute, install and maintain solar systems in their communities.
Among its projects, NorthLite has developed a 413-kilowatt solar microgrid at the Akayet Hotel in Bolgatanga, which it described as Ghana’s largest microgrid solar system.
The Upper East Regional Chairman of the GJA, Albert Sore, expressed appreciation to NorthLite Solar for supporting the awards.
He said the sponsorship demonstrated recognition of the contribution journalists make to public discourse and development in the region.
Mr Sore appealed to other organisations and individuals to support the awards and journalism in the Upper East Region.
The 5th Upper East Regional GJA Awards will be held on October 2, 2026, under the theme: “Beyond the Headlines: The Media’s Role in Promoting WASH for Safe Motherhood and Quality Healthcare.”
