The Member of Parliament for Nabdam Constituency, Dr Mark Kurt Nawaane, has committed GH¢132,000 to support 132 tertiary students from the constituency as part of efforts to ease the financial burden on students and their families.
The students were identified and interviewed during an engagement held from August 31 to September 6, 2026, with each beneficiary expected to receive not less than GH¢1,000 in financial assistance.
The beneficiaries were selected from all 55 branches of the Nabdam Constituency with the involvement of chiefs, traditional authorities, opinion leaders and Assembly Members.
They include 62 students pursuing health-related programmes, while the remaining 70 are studying various disciplines including Law, Education, Engineering and Mining, Agriculture and other programmes.
The intervention comes at a time when many tertiary students continue to struggle with expenses relating to tuition, accommodation, learning materials, transportation and other educational needs.
Dr Nawaane said the support forms part of his commitment to investing in the education and future of young people in the constituency.
Health screening for five communities
Alongside the student support programme, the MP also organised a community health screening exercise targeting residents in five communities.
The exercise, held in Sekoti, Nangodi, Logre, Gundork and Pelungu, focused on preventive healthcare and included eye screening, blood pressure checks and diabetes screening.
Residents were also provided with basic health advice and guidance where health concerns were identified.
The two interventions form part of Dr Nawaane’s broader constituency development efforts, combining educational support with preventive healthcare.
The involvement of local leaders in identifying beneficiaries, according to organisers, was intended to ensure that the support reached students from different parts of the constituency.
For the beneficiaries, the financial assistance is expected to help reduce some of the pressures associated with tertiary education and enable them to remain focused on their studies.
