Builsa South District is likely to benefit from the government’s plan to construct a new secondary school in the Upper East Region under a nationwide education infrastructure programme announced in the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review.
Presenting the budget in Parliament on Thursday, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced that the Upper East Region is among 10 regions selected for the construction of a new secondary school aimed at expanding access to quality education and addressing infrastructure deficits.
Although the Finance Minister did not disclose the specific district where the school will be located, sources familiar with the planning process say Builsa South is the likely beneficiary of the project.
The new school forms part of a broader education initiative that includes the construction of 10 new secondary schools nationwide, the rehabilitation of 150 existing secondary schools, the upgrading of 30 Category C schools to Category B, the upgrading of 20 Category B schools to Category A, and the provision of furniture for beneficiary institutions.
According to Dr. Forson, the programme is expected to benefit about 2.3 million students, more than 100,000 teachers, and approximately 2,000 school leaders across the country.
He said the investment is intended to improve learning environments, expand access to secondary education, and support the government’s efforts to eliminate the double-track system through increased infrastructure.
If confirmed, the project would mark a significant boost for educational development in Builsa South, improving access to secondary education for students in the district and surrounding communities.
Government is yet to officially announce the exact location of the new school in the Upper East Region.
