The family of the late Dr Kenneth Elvis Anewena, with support from Lesken and My Turn, has marked his birthday anniversary by donating food and essential support to vulnerable persons and institutions across the Upper East Region.
The gesture forms part of activities commemorating four years since the passing of Dr Anewena, who died in 2022 at the age of 50.
Rather than organising a conventional birthday celebration, the family chose to continue a humanitarian tradition associated with the late businessman by spending the occasion with street children, vulnerable persons and people in need.
Dr Anewena was the Chief Executive Officer of My Turn Limited and Lesken Enterprise and was recognised as a major private-sector employer in Northern Ghana.
He was also known for his philanthropic activities, particularly his support for orphanages, vulnerable children and disadvantaged members of society.
The Anewena family and its supporting team visited a number of locations, including the Next Generation Home, Bolga Market Square, the Regional Mosque, Hope Children’s Place in Bongo and Mama Laadi’s Children’s Home at Yorigo.
The team also visited the Upper East Regional Hospital and the War Memorial Hospital in Navrongo, where the family donated neonatal intensive care equipment to support the care of newborn babies.
The Head of the Anewena Foundation, Moses Amoa, said the donations were intended to sustain a humanitarian tradition started by the late Dr Anewena.
“Dr Anewena started a humanitarian initiative where every year he celebrated his birthday with the vulnerable and the less privileged in society, and we need to sustain it,” Mr Amoa said.
He said the family prepared hot meals for people in need and distributed them at various locations during the commemoration.
“Anywhere we saw people and the needy in society, we made a stop to share with them sumptuous meals,” he said.
The activities concluded at the Sumbrungu Market Square, where the family and its supporters shared meals with residents.
The family said the annual gesture is intended not only to preserve Dr Anewena’s memory but also to continue the values of compassion and service to vulnerable people that he was known for during his lifetime.
