Gospel musician from the Upper East Region, Joseph Apole Akaguri, has urged musicians to shun smoking, excessive drinking and substance use and instead become positive role models for their fans and young people.

He says artistes wield significant influence, particularly among young people who often imitate the lifestyles, language and behaviour of musicians they admire.

Speaking on Bolga FM’s Tooma La Dengo Sanga, Joseph Apole Akaguri said musicians must therefore be conscious of their conduct both on and off stage.

He urged artistes to pay attention to their dressing, speech and general behaviour in public, warning that negative lifestyles could influence the choices of their followers.

According to him, young people aspiring to enter the music industry often look up to established artistes, making it important for musicians to demonstrate discipline and responsible behaviour.

He also called on gospel musicians to be intentional about the messages they promote through their music.

Joseph Apole Akaguri said gospel music should be used to preach the Gospel, encourage listeners and promote values that can positively influence society.

He cautioned gospel artistes against using their platforms to insult, mock or ridicule others, saying their music should rather inspire and help transform lives.

The musician urged artistes to recognise the responsibility that comes with their public influence and use their platforms to encourage young people to make positive choices and pursue their ambitions responsibly.
