The Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Roland Atanga Ayoo, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on a three-unit classroom block under construction at Kulgo Agusi in the Sumbrungu area, describing the project as a key intervention to improve teaching and learning in the community.
The project, funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), is expected to replace an old and dilapidated school structure that has long posed challenges to education delivery in the area.
Mr. Ayoo made the remarks on Thursday, July 30, during an inspection tour of ongoing Assembly-funded projects across the municipality.
Speaking to journalists after inspecting the site, the MCE said the Assembly deliberately selected Kulgo Agusi for the project because of the poor state of the existing classroom infrastructure.
“As part of the Common Fund projects, I decided that we should give this project to this community. This is Kulgo Agusi in Sumbrungu. Sumbrungu has about four electoral areas, and we decided to award this project so that we can replace the weak and dilapidated classroom block here,” he said.
He disclosed that the contract was awarded on December 29Â and was originally scheduled for completion in June, but land acquisition challenges delayed construction.
“It was awarded in December, around the 29th, and it was supposed to be completed in June. But later on, there were land issues here and there, and that delayed the project,” Mr. Ayoo explained.
Despite the setback, the MCE commended the contractor for the quality and pace of work, expressing confidence that the project would be completed within the revised timeline.
“I really think that the contractor is doing a lot of good work. You can see that the structure is nicely put up, and I believe the contractor is doing a good job. He has assured us that the project will be completed in August, and I hope he will fulfil that promise,“ he stated.
The new school facility comprises a three-unit classroom block, an ICT laboratory and library, a staff common room, a headteacher’s office, a store, a four-seater KVIP toilet, and separate two-unit urinals for boys and girls.
Mr. Ayoo reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring the equitable distribution of development projects across communities in the municipality, stressing that investments in education infrastructure remain a priority.
He said the Assembly would continue to monitor ongoing projects closely to ensure they are completed on schedule and meet the required quality standards to improve access to quality education and public service delivery across the municipality.
