The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Pusiga has questioned the government’s decision to pursue a new 24-hour market in the constituency while the district’s Agenda 111 hospital remains unfinished.
The NPP says the hospital is about 70 percent complete and should be prioritised over the market, particularly as residents continue to grapple with poor inner roads in Pusiga, Widana and Kulungungu.
Addressing the media during a press conference held on 21st September, 2026, NPP Communications Officer for Pusiga, Sumaila Jafaru, accused the government of reversing what he described as the constituency’s most urgent development priorities.
According to him, Pusiga needs a functioning hospital and accessible roads before attention is directed towards another market.
“Why is a new 24-hour market receiving attention while the Agenda 111 hospital remains unfinished and the inner roads of Pusiga, Widana and Kulungungu remain in poor condition?” he asked.
Mr Jafaru argued that the situation is particularly troubling because, according to the NPP, the existing market had only negligible defects before it was demolished to make way for the new project.
He also questioned the government’s development priorities, arguing that a market would have little value to residents if the roads leading to it remain difficult to use.
The NPP says President John Mahama, during the 2024 election campaign, promised to complete Agenda 111 hospitals but did not specifically promise a 24-hour market for Pusiga.
The party is therefore demanding answers on what was promised, what was announced and what is now being delivered in the constituency.
Mr Jafaru stressed that the NPP was not opposed to the construction of a market but was challenging the timing and sequence of development projects.
“We are not outrightly against the market – we are questioning the priority at the given time,” he said.
He said the unfinished hospital has direct consequences for residents, particularly pregnant women, children and the elderly who may have to travel elsewhere for healthcare.
“A hospital is not a luxury but a necessity,” the NPP said, insisting that healthcare infrastructure should receive urgent attention.
The party has consequently called on President Mahama and the Pusiga MP, Hajia Lardi Ayii Ayamba, to push for the completion of the Agenda 111 hospital and rehabilitation of the constituency’s inner roads.
