The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Officer for the Binduri Constituency, Jambeidu Mbawine Sadat, says he will seek re-election when nominations open next week, insisting that his experience and track record make him the right candidate to lead the party’s communication team into the 2028 elections.
Mr Sadat says he is returning to contest the position to retain his seat after what he describes as a strong performance in the 2024 election.
According to him, the 2028 election will be particularly important for the NDC, given that the party is expected to go into the polls with a new presidential candidate, making experienced communication officers critical at the constituency level.
“You can’t get a communication officer who is a trial-and-error communication officer. You need a communication officer who has the experience and exposure to be able to handle the Binduri affairs,” he said.
Mr Sadat says the communication team played a significant role in securing what he describes as the NDC’s strongest electoral performance in Binduri in 2024, despite the constituency not having an NDC Member of Parliament at the time.
He said he regularly trained members of the constituency communication team, including during the final days of the election campaign, to ensure they were equipped with the party’s messages.
“We did a tremendous job, a fantastic job, backed by my communication team members. The vote we had in Binduri in 2024, we have never recorded that as far as the Binduri Constituency is concerned,” he said.
He believes the team’s performance deserves to be rewarded with another mandate, while promising further innovations ahead of the 2028 elections.
Mr Sadat, who confirmed that he currently has one challenger, also urged party members to put personal sentiments aside when deciding who should lead.
He said political leadership should be based on performance rather than emotions.
Meanwhile, Mr Sadat has praised the NDC government’s development agenda, particularly the proposed free primary healthcare programme and the 24-hour economy initiative.
He said the free primary healthcare policy could help address healthcare challenges in rural communities, particularly maternal health emergencies where access to health facilities remains limited.
He cited a recent incident in his community where a pregnant woman reportedly delivered on her way to a health facility, resulting in the death of the newborn.
Mr Sadat said expanding primary healthcare services to communities would help reduce such preventable deaths.
On the 24-hour economy market in Binduri, however, he disclosed that work has yet to begin due to ongoing discussions over land.
According to him, officials from Accra have engaged traditional authorities and landowners to identify a suitable location acceptable to all stakeholders.
He said while some constituencies have already seen work begin on their 24-hour economy markets, Binduri is yet to commence construction.
Despite acknowledging that more needs to be done, Mr Sadat described the NDC government’s performance as positive and said he expects ongoing initiatives to deliver further benefits to residents.
