Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko, has picked number three on the ballot in the party’s 2026 National Chairmanship race, the same position he occupied during the NPP’s 2014 delegates election.
The ballot position was determined on Wednesday, September 9, during the NPP’s balloting exercise at the party’s headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra, ahead of the national executive elections scheduled for October 3, 2026.
Mr Afoko will contest the chairmanship from the third position, with former General Secretary John Boadu taking number one, Sammy Crabbe number two and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko number four.
The recurrence of the number three position has added an interesting twist to Mr Afoko’s latest bid to return to the leadership of the party.
Afoko, who previously served as NPP National Chairman, is seeking to lead the party again as it works to reorganise its structures and strengthen its electoral fortunes ahead of future elections.
The four chairmanship aspirants will now campaign from their respective ballot positions as they seek to convince delegates of their ability to unite and reposition the party.
The October 3 election will determine the next crop of NPP national executives, with the party electing officers to lead its affairs for the next four years.
