The Upper East Regional Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Edmund Bombande, says unsuccessful aspirants in the party’s recent regional elections were invited to the thanksgiving service held by the new regional executives, but most of them failed to attend.
Mr Bombande said invitations were communicated through the party’s WhatsApp platforms, where the various aspirants and their supporters had been engaged throughout the internal elections.
He was responding to concerns that some of the defeated aspirants were not invited to the thanksgiving service, which formed part of a series of prayer activities organised by the newly elected regional executives as they begin efforts to rebuild the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The activities began with a prayer and worship session at the NPP’s regional headquarters, followed by Islamic prayers and a Christian thanksgiving service at the Church of Pentecost in Bolgatanga. The party said the activities were aimed at strengthening relationships among members and renewing their commitment to rebuilding the party.
Speaking on A1 Radio monitored by BolgaFM, Mr Bombande insisted that the unsuccessful aspirants were invited, although he acknowledged that not every one of them may have received a personal phone call.
According to him, the new executives also made efforts to reach some of the aspirants directly, but their busy schedule during a regional thank-you tour made it difficult to personally contact everyone.
He said only about two or three of the unsuccessful aspirants were present at the thanksgiving service.
Mr Bombande therefore rejected suggestions that the defeated aspirants were deliberately excluded from the event, stressing that the invitation had been extended through the party’s WhatsApp platforms.
He acknowledged that some of the aspirants could still be disappointed by the outcome of the internal elections but urged them not to allow the defeat to affect their commitment to the NPP.
The Regional Organiser said the new leadership was prepared to work with all members, including those who contested and lost, as the party seeks to heal divisions and strengthen its structures.
He said the experience, networks and support of the unsuccessful aspirants would be important to the NPP’s efforts to rebuild and regain parliamentary seats in the Upper East Region.
Mr Bombande stressed that the internal elections were now over and urged members to put the contest behind them and concentrate on uniting the party for the 2028 general elections.
