The Happy Man Foundation has provided GH¢18,000 in support to Women in Broadcast, Upper East Region, to help the group provide essential educational materials to vulnerable children ahead of the new academic year.
The contribution will finance the purchase of exercise books, pens, pencils, erasers and sharpeners for children in deprived and hard-to-reach communities as part of an educational support initiative being implemented by Women in Broadcast.
The support forms part of a total GH¢38,000 mobilised by Women in Broadcast for this year’s intervention, with Friends of Prosper contributing GH¢20,000 towards school shoes and an additional 100 school bags.
The support from Happy Man Foundation builds on its previous interventions in the Upper East Region, particularly initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing and educational prospects of vulnerable children and communities.
In 2025, for instance, the Foundation donated 1,000 mathematical sets to 19 Junior High Schools across the Upper East Region to support candidates preparing for the Basic Education Certificate Examination.
The Foundation has also undertaken other social interventions, including support for vulnerable groups and the provision of basic community infrastructure such as potable water facilities.
It is within this broader record of supporting community-led and vulnerable-focused interventions that the Foundation has responded to Women in Broadcast’s appeal for assistance.
Chaiman of Women in Broadcast, Humul Khrusum Tahiru, said the group approached potential partners after identifying additional needs among children during its previous outreach.
Last year, Women in Broadcast distributed more than 3,000 exercise books and pens across five districts in the region.
Ms Tahiru said the exercise revealed that some children were attending school without proper footwear and school bags, prompting the group to expand this year’s support.
“Last year during our donation exercise, we identified a number of children that came to school without shoes or even good shoes and school bags.”
Ms Tahiru expressed appreciation to both organisations, assuring them that the funds would be used judiciously for their intended purpose.
The beneficiaries will be selected from vulnerable communities, with Women in Broadcast expected to announce the districts and schools that will benefit from the exercise.
The group says it will also use its media platforms to provide updates on the distribution and account to the public on the intervention.
Women in Broadcast has meanwhile appealed to other organisations and individuals it previously contacted to hold on to their support temporarily, saying it intends to engage them again for other community interventions after completing the current exercise.
